A Formula 1™ race team asked us to design a sensor to measure the linear displacement of a brake master cylinder piston. It had to provide reliable data in the harsh environment of an F1 race car. We develop sensors used by top-flight motorsport teams, so we understand the challenges our customers face.
As a result, we were asked to design a brake master cylinder position sensor and build it, ready to race, in just three weeks.
Reventec uses the latest TMR non-contact sensing technology, so our sensors don’t suffer from the same physical wear characteristics as potentiometers or other legacy technologies.
The brake master cylinder position sensor monitored the linear travel of an internal piston and no direct contact was possible, so the sensor had to be mounted outside the cylinder. That meant providing accurate measurement through a combined 35mm gap of aluminium, lubricant and air.
We designed, built and calibrated the sensor at our Wiltshire, UK premises. We manufactured the product body using PEEK material, so that it would cope with extremes of heat and vibration.
We measure linear, angular and rotary component movement using the latest TMR technology. Our sensors can measure through 40mm of non-ferrous material. This delivers a high level of accuracy and reliability unmatched by potentiometers and other legacy technologies. Our position sensors are ideal for use in harsh environments because they are solid-state and robust. They are also highly-resistant to liquid ingress.
Reventec products provide highly-accurate data and are factory calibrated to a user’s specifications. They are also user-programmable via a simple GUI, supplied free of charge.
