A leading motorsports team approached us to design and build a suspension rocker position sensor. The sensor needed to monitor 45 degree arc movement in an endurance race car rear suspension rocker. The brief was to design and produce a reliable sensor to replace a rotary potentiometer that was failing regularly. This was a frequent problem, often occurring once or more during a long endurance race. We were given three weeks to design and produce a fully-functional solution.
This suspension rocker position sensor needed to be able to operate reliably in the high temperatures and high-vibration environment found in endurance racing. Reventec has an enviable history developing sensors for use in top-flight motorsports, so we have a good understand of the environmental challenges.
The rocker position sensor needed to be a direct drop-in replacement for a troublesome potentiometer. It needed to make accurate measurements under high vibration. All Reventec position sensors use the latest TMR, non-contact sensing technology, which means they don’t suffer from the same physical wear characteristics of potentiometers and other legacy technologies.
At the point of writing, the sensor has been performing perfectly for more than a year with no failures reported.
We use the latest TMR technology to measure linear, angular and rotary movements of components. Reventec sensors can also measure through 40mm of non-ferrous material. This delivers a high level of accuracy and reliability, and is unmatched by potentiometers or other legacy technologies. All of our position sensing products are ideal for use in harsh environments because they are solid-state and robust.
Our products provide highly-accurate data and are factory calibrated to a user’s specifications. They are also user-programmable via a simple GUI, supplied free of charge.
We produce a range of standard and customisable sensor configurations, as well as offering fully-customised designs.
Reventec customers value our technical expertise and also our fast response times. They typically operate at the cutting edge of:
- Defence manufacturing
- Industrial automation
- Automotive industry
Reventec provides design consultancy, prototyping and one-off or small-batch production runs. We can scale up production to 5000+ pieces, as required.
