Description

Rudder Quadrant Non-Contacting 70° Arc Position Sensor (MV-100-05)

Reventec’s 70° Arc Position Sensor was developed for an America’s Cup yacht racing team to withstand harsh marine environments. It’s engineered for reliability and high performance, measuring the angular position of a rudder quadrant with spectacular accuracy across a full 70 degree range. This data provides critical insights into rudder angle and performance.

The sensor uses our state-of-the-art Quantum TMR technology which offers superior accuracy compared to traditional Hall Effect sensors. An integrated CPU processes the data, providing a dual channel analog voltage output for seamless integration with existing data recorders.

With an ingress protection of IP67, the robust sensor is tolerant to corrosive seawater environments and operates reliably across a -40°C to +125°C temperature range. The solid-state, non-contacting technology has no moving parts to wear out, ensuring a long operational life.

The sensor boasts an impressive accuracy of ±0.5% of reading, with a rapid update rate of 5 kHz, and can measure across large air gaps and through up to 20mm of non-ferrous materials like aluminum or stainless steel. For the America’s Cup team, the target magnet was designed to measure an approximate 6.5mm air gap. The sensor is factory-calibrated for simple plug-and-play installation, making it ready to use right out of the box.

Whilst the sensor has a 70 degree measuring arc, all Reventec products are available for full customisation to ensure the best fit for your application. Sensor dimensions, measuring arc range, connector types and construction materials can be adapted to achieve a sensor solution that complements your existing vehicle or vessel and fits your spatial and weight constraints.

Options include:

  • Range of connector interfaces available including; MIL-DTL 38999, autosport or subsea.
  • Custom housing options to fit your application and offer analogue or CAN outputs without the need for external CPU processing.

Quantum TMR Programmable Sensors
